The school has been involved with the development of a compilation CD featuring R&B, Rock, Pop Music, and soul. The Cd itself is about raising awarness around Mental Health and wellbeing for young people and celebrates their resilience and creativity. we recently met with a BBC producer who came into the school to find out what we are doing around mental health. The producer Julia Foot is will be producing a one hour documentary in March as part of Comic Relief which will look at suicide and how families/communities deal with it. As we have had Shirley a mother who had a son take his own life in our guidance lessons, Julia was interested in our approach and how by bringing in professionals who work in this area and using people's real stories/experiences we developed international cinema adverts, short films/documentaries, live plays, a website and more recently a compilation CD.
The CD will feature songs that cover issues such as positive body image, emotional expression, dealing with loss, disabilty, drugs and alcohol, surviving family breakdown and homelessness, the music and lyrics will create hope and insiration for young people who deal with these as part of their growing up. Keep a look out at the school you may be needed as an extra or Character for the DVD. Filming starts 10th december, we already have dancers (pupils from Thornhill School)who are working with a professional choreographer. The music producer has worked with paul weller ands our director for the DVD is has won a number of prestigoeus awards including 2 Royal Television Society awards (RTS).
We hope to raise money for Comic relief and the samaritans.
